New fuel filter

I dissected the fuel filter.  When I had the fuel pump problem at WG I noticed some small blue foam inside the fuel pump filter(internal filter).  The fuel cells have foam inside them to prevent fuel from sloshing around.  Was worried the foam was disintegrating.

Cut off the top of the filter and unwound the paper and inspected it.  There was some foam, but not much.

New filter on left.  I see no problem with the little bit foam found,it's a big filter.

Time to get back to work

Starting with the problems I had last year, first is the fuel pump.  This problem was repaired at the race track, but it's time to replace with a new one.  I'll keep the old one as a backup.

Next is to replace the fuel filter.  I use the fuel filter housing that came with the car.  The fuel filter is ordered from a antique tractor company in Minnesota.  There used on old diesel tractors.

2019

The new year is here.  But, still waiting on the the race schedule from the F5000 drivers association.  In the past it's been available in December.  This year SVRA is offering free entry to all Lola made race cars at there race at Road America in May.  Hard to say no to that one.  The other event is Mount Tremblant in July.  This one I wanted to do last year.  I know the drivers association always goes to Road America in July, but I have no idea where else they will go this year.

Getting ready for the winter

I have a lot on the to-do list for this winter.

My eBay special donuts don't last too long.  One has cracked already. Despite being unused, they must have been old in years.

Watkins Glen Video 2018

Sunday day 4 Watkins Glen

So it's been almost 48 hours since the last qualifying and I'm ready to race.  Starting at the back, because missing the first race Saturday.  I would have been close the back anyway, of the 17(one other F5000 car) cars in the race 14 were 1990 or newer and much faster.  But I knew that coming in.  So at the start of the race, I passed one of the older cars and by then the rest of the pack was gone.  These are timed races so if there are no problems you should get 20 minutes.  One of the cars in the fast pack blew an engine and oiled the track.  So the cleanup started and our race was over in 10 minutes.
This has been a complaint about the September race for a long time.  That at the end of the weekend you end-up with very little track time.  I was told the Saturday race I missed was only 11 minutes long.
I'll post some photos in the in the next couple of days.  Now it's time to get ready for a antique show in two weeks.

Saturday day 3 Watkins Glen

The fuel pump problem was fixed and the car back together long after the race was completed.  It took longer to locate the problem and repair it.  But there's always today.  Race at 2pm.

Francois, my backup driver.

Francois and Ken, our long time F5000 supporters and good friends.
