Saturday is the day

Leaving Friday was the option, but Saturday got the unanimous vote.  That still gets us to Calif. Thursday or Friday.  Apparently Thursday they start to lineup outside the track.  They leave their trailers there and come back Friday morning to get into the track. So I see no rush to get to the track early Friday.
All the race car stuff is packed.  Not loading the tent and poles makes for a lot of empty space.

Light at the end of the tunnel

Finally got the car into the truck.  Today, I'll finish loading parts and supply's.  Looking to leave this Friday or Saturday.
Ready to leave the shop.

The heat has slowed me down.  It was 110 in back of the truck today.

Crunch time

We'll still haven't got the car out of the shop yet. More to do with other little details taking up my time.  Should get it loaded up today.
Ready to slide the wall panels out of the way.
Spare tires with rims.  You never know, can't replace the Goodyear's at the track.
Starting to pack the upper level in the truck.

Load the car next

Not to many days left now.
I'm ready for the car.

Just maintenance

Nothing much to report.  Just been working on the truck.  Did install cruise control. That will come in handy on a long trip.

On Schedule

With the car now finished, I'm keeping on schedule.  Working on the truck and starting to pack tools and supplies.

Decals

Getting down to the nitty gritty.  Replacing the decals on the left lower panel of the car.  They seem to get a lot of abrasion.  The ones on the right are fine.
The plan is to have the car 100% ready to go by Thursday.  Then it's onto the truck.
Been meaning to change this one for the last couple of years.

Still working on all those little details.

Tire rim polishing

My favorite, polishing the mag wheels.  Takes between 4-5 hours. But they really look nice when there done.

Engine rev limiter

Beginning this year, the Formula 5000 association is requiring all cars to have a engine rev limiter set at 8000 rpm. Engine development has come a long way since the 1970's.   For me it makes no difference.  I still use the original cast iron cylinder heads, that's my true rev limiter.

Mounting the rev controller under the seat.  Next is to run the wires.

Odds & ends

Been working on all those little odds and ends.  Bleed the brakes, adjust the clutch.  Pressure tested the cooling system and add safety wire where needed. As always, a bit of cleaning and polishing. Next is the required engine rev limiter.  More about that on the next post.

New harness installed

The seat harness had to be replaced, the old one had a expiration date.  I change manufactures, this one fits(me) much better.

The clock is ticking

It's hard to believe Monterey is a month away.  I should have the new seat harness tomorrow and that will wrap up the major items needed for the car.
Now onto the truck.  Yes, the box van is being placed back in service.  After considering my options, using the truck again is the best decision for this event.

Sounds good

No issues, started right up and no leaks.  The clutch pedal just needs a small adjustment. The engine and gearbox are working properly.  Now it's time to order a new harness.

Gears & dogs

Sure hope these new(new to me) gear sets and dogs last the event.  By all accounts I shouldn't have to to tend to them.  Also removing the slack out of the shift linage will be a big plus.  Time will tell.
The gears are used, be in very good condition.
The dogs are new.

Gears & dogs installed.

Right bank done

Right side done, next is the gearbox.

It's 4pm, I was cutting the grass.  Deb is working in the backyard.  And the bear is having a late lunch on the front porch.
Now it's off to the neighbors trash can.
